Hesse is setting course for the future with the energy transition. The goal is a safe, environmentally friendly, affordable and socially accepted energy supply. By 2050, Hesse should cover 100 percent of its energy needs from renewable sources and remain a strong industrial and service state. By 2020, a quarter of electricity consumption should come from renewable sources.
As the highest state authority, the Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas (HMWVW) is the political shaper of the energy transition in our state. With its work areas of energy policy, renewable energies, energy technologies, energy markets, energy efficiency and energy monitoring, it helps to create the framework conditions for the development of a sustainable energy supply. The HMWVW is therefore a central partner in the House of Energy; the state secretary is Prof. Dr. Lamia Messari-Becker.
Promoting innovative energy technology and energy efficiency projects
The research and development of new energy and energy storage technologies plays a key role in the expansion of renewable energies. The development and use of new technologies, processes and strategies in the areas of renewable energies, energy efficiency and saving is therefore fundamental to the success of the energy transition.
The Hessian Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas therefore promotes innovative energy technology and energy efficiency projects in the state of Hesse.
Roadmap Energy Hesse
Based on the energy summit and the energy agenda, the state of Hesse has created an energy roadmap that defines the prioritized areas of action for the energy transition in Hesse. This includes the expansion of renewable energies as well as reducing consumption in the electricity sector, heat efficiency and the expansion of networks and charging infrastructure in the transport sector. In addition, the cross-sectional topics of digitalization and sector coupling are also prioritized.
Hydrogen strategy
Building on the prioritization of sector coupling in Hesse, a separate state strategy for the key element hydrogen was developed. This strategy, which was further strengthened in 2022 with the establishment of the state hydrogen office, is based on the national hydrogen strategy and takes into account the special features of Hesse, such as the high energy requirements in the transport sector and in industry. The strategy was developed in collaboration with various stakeholders, including the House of Energy, and is continually updated.
