ENTEGA is one of the largest providers of green electricity and climate-neutral natural gas. It is also active in the business areas of energy generation, energy trading, energy sales, energy networks, public operations management and shared services. The company is majority owned by the municipality.
ENTEGA AG, with around 2.000 employees, is one of the largest regional suppliers in Germany and is majority owned by the science city of Darmstadt via HEAG Holding AG (93,13%). The remaining shares belong to various municipalities in southern Hesse, the HEAG pension subsidy fund and employees.
With its subsidiaries, the company is active in the business areas of energy generation, energy trading, energy sales, energy networks, public operations management and shared services. The company pursues a consistent sustainability strategy, for which it was awarded the renowned German Sustainability Prize in 2013. Since 2015, the company has also carried the TÜV seal “pioneer of the energy transition”.
ENTEGA is one of the largest providers of green electricity and climate-neutral natural gas in Germany. The company supplies over 600.000 customers with green electricity and natural gas. The company not only sells green electricity, but also invests in the expansion of renewable energies. ENTEGA's goal is to cover the needs of its private green electricity customers amounting to one billion kilowatt hours with electricity that the company generates in the plants it manages.
In addition to the expansion of renewable energies, energy saving is the second important pillar of climate protection. ENTEGA supports private and commercial customers with a comprehensive range of modern energy services and energy saving measures. With its funding program, ENTEGA also helps financially with the implementation of energy saving measures. For this, the company was awarded “very good” by the Hesse Association for the Environment and Nature Conservation.
Commitment to renewable energies
ENTEGA is not only one of the largest providers of green electricity, it has been investing in the expansion of renewable energies for years. In 2015, ENTEGA had systems in operation with a total output of almost 289 megawatts. This means that around 740.000 MWh of green electricity can be generated per year, enough to cover the energy needs of over 240.000 households. The focus of renewable generation is on wind energy, with around 247 megawatts of installed capacity. The company also operates several solar parks and biogas plants.
Global Tech I wind farm
The largest plant in ENTEGA's portfolio is the Global Tech I offshore wind farm in the North Sea, in which ENTEGA has a 24,9% stake. The wind farm with its 80 5-megawatt wind turbines can supply 445.000 households with green electricity each year.

Hausfirste wind farm
ENTEGA is currently building a wind farm in the Kaufunger Forest (Werra-Meißner district) with ten wind turbines, each with an output of three megawatts. As of 2017, around 23.000 households can be supplied with this.
ENTEGA NATURpur Institute
In 2008, ENTEGA AG founded the ENTEGA NATURpur Institute as a non-profit GmbH whose task is to promote environmental and climate protection. Since then, the NATURpur Institute has supported selected research and application projects in the areas of renewable energies, energy efficiency and electromobility. www.naturpur-institut.de
Research and Development
In recent years, ENTEGA AG has been involved in various research projects relating to the energy supply of the future. The international research project “web2energy”, for example, was about the integration of renewable energies into the intelligent networks of the future. Together with top-class partners from business and teaching, ENTEGA researched in the “Well2Wheel” pilot project how electromobility can be integrated and controlled as a storage and active component in the distribution network. In the “SolVer” pilot project, ENTEGA, together with the Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences and the battery manufacturer ads-tec, is looking for ways in which battery storage can be optimally used in the future. ENTEGA is currently participating in the “Flex4Energy” project. This project serves to further develop the results from previous projects. The aim is to develop a platform on which flexibility options for supplying or purchasing energy as well as storage capacities for the distribution network level can be traded.
