The ENTEGA Group is one of Germany's largest energy and infrastructure service providers and a leading supplier of green electricity generated from 100% renewable energy sources. Headquartered in Darmstadt, the company employs approximately 2.500 people and is majority-owned by the City of Darmstadt. Its regional focus is on Darmstadt, southern Hesse, and the Mainz region.

The tasks of ENTEGA and its subsidiaries include the most environmentally friendly energy generation possible, the supply of electricity, gas, heat, internet and drinking water to residential and business customers, energy trading, the operation of energy, drinking water and telecommunications networks, waste incineration and wastewater treatment, as well as specialized metering and billing services. Furthermore, the company develops new energy services, leveraging the opportunities offered by digitalization.

ENTEGA combines future-proof energy supply and digital infrastructure for a region worth living in. The company is investing well over one billion euros by 2030, primarily in networks, wind and solar farms, expanding fiber optic and charging infrastructure, and offering its customers ok power-certified green electricity from 100% renewable energy sources. Since 2008, the company has refrained from selling nuclear power and continuously invests in the expansion of renewable energies and digital infrastructure. ENTEGA also supports residential and commercial customers with a comprehensive range of modern energy services.

Commitment to renewable energies
In the generation sector, ENTEGA owns or operates wind farms with a capacity of almost 260 MW and solar parks with 48 MW. In 2025 alone, these facilities generated over 750 million kWh of green electricity – enough to theoretically supply around 260.000 households with green energy and avoid approximately 595.000 tons of CO₂ emissions. ENTEGA will further focus its expansion of renewable energies on regional development in the future and implement additional wind and solar projects to decisively advance the energy transition locally as an integrated energy and infrastructure partner.

Energy transition and fiber optic expansion

ENTEGA is working closely with the city of Darmstadt and the municipalities of southern Hesse on the energy transition. Darmstadt's municipal heat plan, adopted in early 2026, largely aligns with ENTEGA's heat strategy and forms the basis for expanding the district heating network and restructuring the heat extraction from the Darmstadt waste incineration plant, which is owned by ZAS. Additionally, the Wiesbaden waste incineration plant is in its final construction and commissioning phase.

At the same time, ENTEGA is pushing ahead with the expansion of fiber optics in southern Hesse – in Darmstadt as well as in the districts of Darmstadt-Dieburg, Bergstraße, Odenwald and Offenbach.

ENTEGA NATURpur Institute
In 2018, ENTEGA AG founded the ENTEGA NATURpur Institute as a non-profit limited liability company with the mission of promoting environmental and climate protection in the region. Since then, the NATURpur Institute has supported selected research and application projects in the areas of renewable energies, energy efficiency, and biodiversity. Research and Development
ENTEGA AG has participated in various research projects related to the future of energy supply in recent years. The ELISA project investigates climate-neutral driving with hybrid and fully electric trucks in regional commuter traffic on the A5 motorway under real-world conditions. The CIRCULUS project focuses on the interdisciplinary development of a holistic design for a sustainable battery system to support the energy transition, while the CyberStress project investigates model-based stress tests for cyber-secure energy networks, and the PAMAd project explores the value-based optimization of asset management strategies for medium-voltage networks, supported by artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, the ENTEGA Group is a cooperation or consortium partner in various research projects of the TU Darmstadt, such as the Darmstadt Energy Laboratory for Technologies in Application (DELTA) for the efficient use of the electricity grid or the ENIPRO project, which researches energy-integrated operational optimization of cyber-physical production systems.

Efficiency: Class
In 2014, ENTEGA launched the Efficiency:Class together with the Frankfurt-Rhine-Main Chamber of Crafts. The Efficiency:Class is a regional competence center for energy-efficient and economical construction and modernization. Anyone interested can get advice from independent energy experts on all questions relating to energy-efficient construction and modernization.
